What do Experiment Chile, Host Families and Schools Expect from you?

• Commit to your program dates, goals and demands to teach and share your language and culture to your host family for a maximum of 10 hours per week and to the host school for a maximum of 20 academic hours per week.
• Organize a schedule together with your host family right upon arrival to provide the language experience.
• Organize and adhere to the school schedule, assigned tasks and rules to develop oral and speaking skills among school students.
• To bring materials that may facilitate your teaching experience and help the family and school members learn.
• Ask for EIL Chile’s support and teaching suggestions if needed or in case of trouble.
• Provide creative, fun and informative language sessions.  If you get stumped and need specific help, count on EIL Chile support.
• Respect host family and school rules, habits and cultural aspects.
• Never forget that you are not a guest at the host family but another family member and that they expect you to actively participate with them in family and social activities. Sleeping late every day, spending your days locked in your room not being accessible to the family or on the Internet, your iPad or cell phone most of the time is not respectful.
• Keep your room tidy and clean at all times.
• Observe social manners and proceed accordingly.  Using the words ‘Hola’, ‘Por favor’ and ‘Gracias’ is most appreciated and a common practice for families and people in general.
• Maintain a neat (no visible tattoos or piercings) and semi-formal appearance and professional look at school at all times.
• Able to propose and engage school students in meaningful learning activities to practice English.
• Never forget that you will be a role model in the school community and that you will be observed at all times.
